CM Sarma Expects Higher Tax Devolution for Assam in Union Budget

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday expressed hope that the Union Budget 2026–27 would allocate a higher share of tax devolution to the state than last year. He said states now focus more on overall revenue transfers than project-specific announcements. Meanwhile, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her ninth consecutive Union Budget in Parliament and tabled the 16th Finance Commission report, which outlines tax-sharing arrangements between the Centre and states for 2026–2031.
