Congress Challenges Assam CM on Per Capita Income
Assam Congress chief Bhupen Borah has challenged CM Himanta Biswa Sarma to raise Assam’s per capita income above that of Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Mizoram. At a press conference, Borah criticized Assam’s economic progress, highlighting its low GSDP of ₹6.43 lakh crore for 2023-24. He accused the CM of focusing on self-promotion and benefiting a select few. Borah compared the situation to BJP’s 2004 “India Shining” campaign, asserting that Assam’s people will respond similarly in the 2026 elections.
