Congress Files Police Complaint Against Udalguri Candidate Suren Daimari

The Congress party on Thursday filed a police complaint against its Udalguri candidate Suren Daimari, a day after he withdrew from the Assembly elections and resigned from the party.

The complaint was lodged at Bhangagarh Police Station by APCC general secretary Ramanna Baruah. He stated that Daimari had been given the party ticket, filed his nomination successfully, and received ₹30 lakh from the Congress for election-related expenses.

However, Daimari resigned from the party on April 8 and publicly announced his withdrawal from the election. He also made derogatory remarks against the Congress, calling it a “Gaddar” and “Probonchokor” party.

Baruah alleged that these actions have harmed the party’s image and sought legal action under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 314, 316, 318, and 356.
