Congress MLA’s Comments Spark Controversy in Karimganj

The Karimganj district Congress burned an effigy of MLA Kamalakha Dey Purkayastha after he compared the party office to a madrasa. District Congress Committee president Rajat Chakrabarty led the protest, accusing Purkayastha of making communal comments to please the ruling party. Purkayastha claimed the Congress had become a Muslim party and accused Hindu leaders of appeasing Muslim cadres. Chakrabarty countered, saying Purkayastha was elected due to Muslim voters and now aimed to join the BJP by targeting Muslims. He challenged Purkayastha to resign from Congress and contest elections independently.
