Congress Questions Surge in CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s Family Wealth

Supriya Shrinate on Monday alleged a sharp rise in Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s family wealth, claiming it was largely driven by his spouse’s assets.

Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Shrinate said Sarma’s assets increased from Rs 1.02 crore in 2016 to Rs 2.36 crore, while his wife’s assets surged significantly, contributing to a major rise in total family wealth.

She termed it an “asset accumulation model” rather than an “Assam model” and questioned the source of such growth while holding public office. She also raised concerns over Sarma not declaring any immovable assets in his name.

The Congress leader accused the government of neglecting key issues like unemployment and lack of industrial growth, alleging that focus remained on personal wealth rather than public welfare.

Shrinate further criticised the BJP’s social media narrative, stating that reality differs from what is portrayed online, and asserted that Congress would focus on communicating facts to the public.
