Contractors Protest Assam Govt’s Hike in PWD Registration Fees

The Assam government has sharply increased the non-refundable registration fees for PWD Roads contractors, sparking strong resentment. Fees for Class I(A) contractors rose from ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh, with similar hikes across other categories. Contractors argue there is no job guarantee despite the hefty fees and highlighted pending dues. The Greater Guwahati Roads Division Contractors Association plans to meet and explore legal action. Many contractors have also not received full payments promised before Bihu.
