Contractual Staff Unpaid for Months at Assam Heritage Sites, Govt Vows Resolution

Over 180 contractual workers maintaining 167 monuments in Assam, including the UNESCO-listed Charaideo Moidams, haven’t received salaries for six months. Payment delays stem from the government not clearing vendor bills worth over ₹2 crore. Many staff have stopped reporting to work, affecting site upkeep. The Archaeology Directorate acknowledged the issue and assured that efforts are underway to resolve it soon.
