Controversy Surrounds Critically Ill Elephant’s Journey to Ambani-Owned Zoo

The shipment of an elephant, whose viral picture stirred social media, to the Ambani-owned zoo-cum-rehab facility in Jamnagar, Gujarat, has sparked controversy. The elephant, reportedly critically ill, was being transported along with its calf. Concerns arise over the decision to subject the ailing animal to a lengthy journey amid hot weather conditions. Activists criticize the decision, advocating for local treatment or care in Assam. PETA intervened, relocating the elephant following recommendations from MP Maneka Sanjay Gandhi and the Supreme Court’s High-Powered Committee. Investigations revealed the illegal possession of the elephant and calf, prompting their transfer to a specialized facility due to their chronic medical conditions.
