Corruption Scandal in Hailakandi: MLA’s Son Accused of Misusing Farmers’ Scheme

A corruption scandal has surfaced in Assam’s Hailakandi district, involving Jahangir Alahi Laskar, the son of local MLA Zakir Hussain Laskar. Laskar allegedly benefited from a government scheme intended for farmers, being appointed overnight as the leader of a farmers’ group to access subsidized tractors under the Village Level Farm Machinery Bank (VMBLF) scheme. The tractors were reportedly diverted to Laskar’s company, sparking outrage among local farmers. The Veer Lachit Sena is demanding a magisterial inquiry into the misuse of government resources.
