Corruption Scandal Uncovered in Assam’s Tax Office

A major corruption case has surfaced in the Office of the Assistant Commissioner of Taxes in Dhubri, Assam, involving fraudulent manipulation of GST documents tied to coal depot firms. Senior Assistant Konkendra Fouzdar has been suspended for his central role in the scandal, which used fake invoices to claim fraudulent GST benefits. The scheme reportedly cost the Assam government Rs. 6 crore between 2021 and 2023. A former Superintendent, Subungcha Mwshahary, is also implicated. The fraud came to light after an internal investigation revealed coal depots were issuing counterfeit invoices to evade taxes.
