CRS Approves Operation of Trains on New Double Line Between Chhaygaon and Mirza

On June 27, 2024, the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), Sumeet Singhal, completed the inspection of the newly laid double line between Chhaygaon and Mirza stations, approving its operation. This section is part of the 176-km New Bongaigaon-Kamakhya via Goalpara double-line project, which aims to enhance freight and passenger traffic.

The 15.558 km stretch between Chhaygaon and Mirza is now operational, allowing more trains to run with improved speed and connectivity. Earlier sections of this project, including Bamunigaon to Chhaygaon and Dhupdhara to Bamunigaon, were commissioned between November 2022 and February 2024.

This project significantly boosts northeast India’s connectivity, particularly benefiting far-flung areas of Meghalaya by facilitating better transportation of people and goods with the rest of the nation.
