Dam-Induced Floods Kill 2, Affect 243 Villages in Lakhimpur

Heavy rain and dam water release from NEEPCO’s PHEP triggered severe floods in Assam’s Lakhimpur, killing two—Biren Pawe and Rajkumar Taid—in Nowboicha. Around 243 villages were affected, with major breaches reported in embankments at Atichuk and Pohumora. NH-15 remains shut, stranding hundreds of vehicles. Rescue operations by SDRF are ongoing.
