Damaged Culvert Halts Traffic on Rani–Mairang–Patharkhama Road

Traffic on the Rani–Mairang–Patharkhama NEC road on the western fringe of Guwahati has been suspended after a culvert deteriorated beyond safe use for heavy vehicles. The Public Works Department has blocked both ends with soil to prevent accidents, but no permanent repairs or alternative routes have been arranged so far.

The prolonged closure has caused major inconvenience to commuters travelling between Assam and Meghalaya, especially towards the Chandubi side. Local residents and road users have demanded urgent repairs and a temporary diversion to restore connectivity.
