Damaged Silchar-Assam University Road Triggers Public Outcry

The severely damaged road connecting Silchar and Assam University has sparked concern among students, faculty members and local residents due to massive potholes and waterlogging, especially in the Silcoorie area.

Continuous rainfall has worsened the condition, making daily travel difficult for commuters. Residents blamed poor drainage and lack of permanent infrastructure for the recurring damage every monsoon.

Silchar MP Parimal Suklabaidya said he has directed PWRD officials to begin immediate restoration work and assured possible support from MP LAD funds if needed.

Sources said a DPR for upgrading nearly 14 km of the road, including double-lane expansion and drainage improvement, has already been submitted to the government.
