Debabrata Saikia Accuses BJP of “Betraying” Assam

Debabrata Saikia has alleged that the BJP government has “betrayed” the people of Assam on multiple issues ahead of the Assembly elections.
The Congress leader criticised the implementation of the CAA, claiming it went against public sentiment and the Assam Accord. He also accused the government of failing tea garden workers, granting only a minimal wage hike, and not delivering on promises like ST status for six communities and flood control.
Saikia dismissed concerns over leaders leaving Congress, saying it would not impact the party’s prospects. He also rejected speculation about joining the BJP.
Expressing confidence, Saikia said he expects to retain his Nazira seat, though the margin may be affected due to a triangular contest. The state will vote on April 9, with results on May 4.
