Debabrata Saikia Seeks Governor’s Intervention on Assam’s Drought Crisis

Opposition leader Debabrata Saikia has urged Assam Governor Lakshman Acharya to act on worsening drought-like conditions, citing a 42% rainfall deficit. He highlighted severe impact on farmers and tea cultivation, criticized poor irrigation coverage, and demanded drought declaration, compensation, emergency relief, and revival of irrigation schemes. Saikia called it a moral and constitutional duty to protect rural livelihoods.
