Debabrata Saikia Seeks PM CARES Support for Upper Assam Flood Victims

Guwahati: Former Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a special allocation from the PM CARES Fund to support families affected by the July 2026 floods in Upper Assam. In his August 20 letter, Saikia sought a special relief, rehabilitation and livelihood restoration package for flood-hit areas of Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and adjoining regions.
He said many families had lost homes, livestock, businesses and other livelihood assets, and called for enhanced assistance, restoration of infrastructure and special support for vulnerable groups. Saikia also urged a transparent and time-bound system to ensure relief reaches genuinely affected families.
