Decade-Old Water Pipeline Hampers Guwahati Flyover Construction
A 1960s-era water pipeline of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has caused delays in the Guwahati Club-Noonmati flyover project due to frequent leaks. The pipeline, which serves areas from Satpukhuri reservoir to Chandmari, has exceeded its lifespan but remains active as many residents haven’t switched to the Guwahati Jal Board’s water supply system.
Leaks have inundated roads and construction sites, threatening the flyover’s quality and raising safety concerns. GMC has paid Rs 6 crore to the Jal Board to subsidize connection shifts, but many residents are reluctant to apply due to trust issues. Officials are considering setting a deadline for the switch.
