Dhubri MP Rakibul Hussain Resigns as Assam MLA
Rakibul Hussain, newly elected Lok Sabha MP from Dhubri, resigned from his position as MLA of Samaguri LAC in Nagaon district. Hussain, a long-time Congress member, won the 2024 Lok Sabha election with a record margin of 10,12,476 votes, defeating AIUDF candidate Badruddin Ajmal.
Hussain’s political career includes multiple terms in the Assam Legislative Assembly since 2001 and a ministerial role in Tarun Gogoi’s cabinet. He formally submitted his resignation to Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary, witnessed by key political figures.
During his farewell, Hussain expressed gratitude to the people of Dhubri and the Congress party for their support. He mentioned his initial reluctance to run for the Lok Sabha but agreed after encouragement from senior leaders. Hussain received 14,71,885 votes in the election and opposed incorporating AIUDF MLAs into the Congress following their leader’s defeat.
