Dibrugarh Doctor Evades Arrest Amid Allegations of Maid Abuse; Wife in Custody

Dibrugarh police have been unable to apprehend Dr. Debajit Dutta, accused of physically torturing their minor housemaid, even after more than two weeks. His wife, Boby Kalita, was arrested on April 14 in connection with the case. Dr. Dutta, a skin specialist, remains absconding, reportedly seeking anticipatory bail. The Dibrugarh District Sports Association (DDSA) suspended Dr. Dutta from his position as president following his wife’s arrest. Charges under various sections of the IPC, Juvenile Justice Act, and Child Labour Act have been filed against them.
