ECI Enforces Silent Period from 5 PM April 7 Ahead of Assam Polls

The Election Commission of India has imposed the mandatory Silent Period for the Assam Assembly elections from 5:00 PM on April 7, 48 hours before polling ends.
Under the Representation of the People Act, all campaign activities—including rallies, meetings, and processions—are banned during this period. The restriction also applies to digital platforms, prohibiting election-related content, bulk messaging, and voter outreach on social media.
Displaying election material, opinion polls, or survey results on electronic media is strictly forbidden. Additionally, political workers from outside constituencies must leave once campaigning ends to ensure fair polling conditions.
Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goel urged strict compliance, warning that any violations will attract legal action.
