Environmental Groups Oppose Alleged Move to Hand Over Depota Elephant Corridor

Sonitpur: Environmentalists and wildlife organisations, including Hati Bandhu, have opposed an alleged move by the Sonitpur district administration and the forest and revenue departments to hand over the Depota Elephant Corridor to industrialists.
The corridor, which connects Nameri National Park and Sonai Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary to Arimora Chapori, was created to ensure the safe movement of elephants and reduce human-elephant conflict. Conservation groups have also raised concerns over the earlier demolition of corridor signboards, which were later reinstalled following public and media pressure.
