Espionage Controversy Unravels: ‘Spy Recruiter’ Manash Chaliha Nabbed Amid ULFA-I Camp Scandal

In the midst of the controversy surrounding espionage at the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-I) camp, the alleged ‘spy recruiter,’ identified as Manash Chaliha, has been apprehended by the police. Chaliha was captured from a hotel in West Bengal in connection with a 2023 fraud case filed against him in Guwahati. Reports indicate that Chaliha’s statement has been recorded by the police. The arrest comes after a video surfaced on social media, posted by ULFA-I, where an alleged spy, Manash Borgohain, accused Chaliha of recruiting him and being involved in espionage activities. Borgohain also claimed that Chaliha provided training to women recruits to honey-trap ULFA-I leaders. Chaliha, denying the allegations, shared a video asserting his innocence while being in hiding. The unfolding scandal raises questions about security and espionage activities within the banned insurgent group.
