Farmers Protest Nagaland’s Eviction Order in Assam’s Merapani Seed Farm

Over 1,000 farmers protested at Merapani Bholaguri seed farm in Assam’s Golaghat district after the Nagaland government ordered them to cease farming and vacate. The disputed 1,200-acre land, under a long-standing border conflict, is pending in the Supreme Court. Farmers, backed by KMSS, oppose plans to convert the area for oil palm cultivation and accuse both state governments of negligence. They demand land rights, an end to encroachment, and warn of environmental harm from oil palm plantations. Tensions remain high with no administrative presence on the ground.
