Floodwaters Inundate Villages in Chirang After Champabati River Embankments Breach

Chirang: Several villages under Sidli circle in Assam’s Chirang district have been inundated after water from the Bhutan hills caused the Champabati River to overflow, affecting homes, roads and agricultural fields. Amin Para, Gorshingpara and Thaigirguri are among the worst-hit areas, with around 20 to 25 houses reportedly affected.

Sidli MLA Paniram Brahma said the river embankment has breached at three locations, allowing floodwaters to enter nearby villages. BTC executive member James Basumatary, Chirang District Commissioner Gokul Brahma and the MLA visited the affected areas as authorities assessed the damage and monitored the situation.
