Former Nalbari MLA Ashok Sarma Joins Congress After Leaving BJP

Ashok Sarma, former MLA of Nalbari district, joined the Congress party on Friday after resigning from the BJP a week earlier. Sarma, who expressed dissatisfaction with BJP’s state leadership, was welcomed into Congress by leaders including MP Gaurav Gogoi and Assam Congress Chief Bhupen Kumar Borah. Sarma had been denied a BJP ticket in 2021 despite being elected as MLA in 2016. Congress leaders expressed support for Sarma and suggested more BJP leaders may join Congress in the future.
