Fraudster Arrested for Attempting to Forge Assam CM’s Signature to Withdraw Rs. 50 Lakh

The Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell thwarted an attempt by Rakesh Singh to fraudulently withdraw Rs. 50 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund by forging Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s signature. Singh, 32, from Arrah, Bihar, was arrested in Kolkata from his rented New Alipore accommodation by a team led by SP Rosie Kalita.

A Kolkata court granted a three-day transit remand for Singh, allowing the vigilance cell to bring him to Guwahati for further investigation. Charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act and relevant sections of the IPC for cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy have been filed against him. The arrest was made before Singh could complete the fraudulent withdrawal.
