Fresh Tensions Flare on Assam-Meghalaya Border as Huts Torched

Tensions have reignited in Lapangap village on the Assam-Meghalaya border. Villagers from Meghalaya allege that miscreants from Assam set fire to several thatched huts, damaging property and crops. The West Jaintia Hills SP confirmed the burning of huts in disputed agricultural fields. The area has remained volatile following recent clashes over land rights, including sapling plantations by Assam’s KAAC and retaliatory actions by Meghalaya villagers. The region falls under the long-standing Block I and Block II disputes, awaiting resolution in the second phase of border talks. Meghalaya Police have limited access in the area for security reasons.
