GAIL Pipeline Delay Stalls Guwahati City Gas Supply

The Barauni-Guwahati natural gas pipeline remains incomplete at Panikhaiti, stalling city gas supply in Guwahati. Despite PM Modi inaugurating it over a year ago, GAIL has yet to finish a crucial 2.5-km stretch. City gas distributor Purba Bharati, currently sourcing gas from Duliajan, faces supply issues, affecting CNG stations and delaying connections—only 101 households have received piped gas out of over 6,000 ready connections. The project, initially set for 2021 completion, has seen costs rise from ₹3,308 crore to ₹3,992 crore.
