Gauhati HC Issues Fresh Guidelines for Motor Accident Compensation Claims
Following Supreme Court directions, the Gauhati High Court has issued new practice guidelines for filing compensation claims under Section 166(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Petitioners must include names, permanent and local addresses, Aadhaar, PAN, and email IDs of injured persons or legal heirs of deceased victims. Courts may request missing details while issuing notices. Claimants must also furnish bank account details and a bank certificate before receiving compensation. These steps aim to improve transparency and streamline the payment process through MACTs or designated courts.
