Gauhati HC Seeks Affidavits on Jail Conditions in Four States

The Gauhati High Court has directed Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh to submit affidavits addressing concerns from an inspection report on jail conditions.

The court, led by Chief Justice Vijay Bishnoi and Justice Kaushik Goswami, urged states to outline actions taken or planned to implement the report’s recommendations.

Despite the Registrar General’s August 20 affidavit highlighting poor conditions, no responses were received. The court set a January 29, 2025 deadline for detailed submissions.
