Assam Launches Anti-Depredation Squads Near Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary

Assam has introduced 13 Anti-Depredation Squads (ADS) near Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, in collaboration with conservation group Aranyak, to reduce human-wildlife conflict.

The squads, composed of local villagers, are trained in wildlife handling and defense techniques to safeguard farmland and homes from animal incursions, including rhinos and wild boars.

Aranyak provided essential equipment, while the Forest Department emphasized collaboration and skill development. The initiative seeks to balance human needs with wildlife conservation, serving as a model for similar efforts across Assam.
