Gauhati High Court Bans Buffalo Fights in Assam

The Gauhati High Court has directed the Assam government to stop all buffalo fights (Moh juj) and take strict action against organisers until further orders.

The order was issued by Justice Anjan Moni Kalita after a petition by PETA India, which submitted evidence of cruelty during such events.

The court stated that buffalo fights violate the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 and existing Supreme Court rulings. Authorities have been asked to enforce the ban and prevent future incidents.
