Gauhati High Court Dismisses CBI Review Plea Against Ripun Bora

Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court has dismissed a review petition filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against Congress leader Ripun Bora in connection with the 2000 murder of tea community leader Daniel Topno. A Kamrup district and sessions court had discharged Bora in 2014, citing insufficient material to frame charges, following which the CBI challenged the order.

Topno was murdered at Gohpur in Sonitpur district on September 27, 2000, and the CBI took over the investigation from Assam CID in 2001. Reacting to the High Court order, Bora expressed satisfaction and maintained that the allegations against him were part of a political conspiracy that had harmed his image and career.
