Gauhati High Court Grants Bail to Five Accused in Animesh Bhuyan Lynching Case

The Gauhati High Court has granted bail to five individuals accused in the Animesh Bhuyan lynching case, including Mohan Das, Bitupan Das, Ratul Das, Akoni alias Sanju Das, and Bikram. The Jorhat Police had earlier submitted a 339-page chargesheet on January 17, 2022, with 14 accused, including the prime accused Neeraj Das alias Kola lora, who died in a police custody accident. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the development, emphasizing the police’s commitment to an expeditious trial. In January 2022, CM Sarma visited Animesh Bhuyan’s family, offering condolences and providing financial support. Animesh Bhuyan, an ex-AASU leader, was brutally killed in a mob attack on November 29, 2021.
