Gauhati High Court Halts Sonapur Eviction Drive Until September 30

The Gauhati High Court has paused the eviction drive in Sonapur’s Kachutali until September 30. The decision follows violent clashes during a previous eviction, where police firing led to two deaths. Locals had petitioned the court, presenting land documents from 1923. The court has ordered the district administration to verify these documents before further action. The eviction drive targeted 200 bighas of government land, allegedly occupied by “outsiders.”
