Gauhati High Court Seeks Response on Garbhanga Sanctuary Status Revocation
The Gauhati High Court has directed the central and state governments to respond within 22 days regarding the cancellation of Garbhanga Wildlife Sanctuary’s recognition. This follows a PIL filed by activist Subrat Talukdar, challenging the Assam government’s decision to revoke the sanctuary’s status. Garbhanga, initially declared a sanctuary in April 2022, had its recognition revoked by a cabinet decision in September 2023. The court has asked the state government to submit an affidavit explaining the move.
