Gauhati University to Launch Organic Fertilizer for Sustainable Fish Farming
Gauhati University’s Zoology Department, in collaboration with ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture, Chennai, is set to introduce “plankton plus” technology as an eco-friendly alternative to urea for fertilizing pond water. The project will convert fish market waste into organic liquid fertilizer, which will enhance plankton growth—three times more effective than urea.
Dr. Dandadhar Sarma, head of the department, emphasized that this organic fertilizer will improve water quality and support natural fish food. Fish farmers will be trained to adopt this new technology, replacing harmful urea in fish farming.
