Gaurav Gogoi Challenges Himanta Biswa Sarma to Take Oath Over Allegations

Hours after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma denied allegations against his wife, Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi on Monday challenged him to deny the claims under oath on the Bhagavad Gita.

Speaking after a rally, Gogoi questioned Sarma over alleged foreign assets, including properties and business links abroad, and asked if these were disclosed in official affidavits. He said failure to declare such assets could have legal consequences.

The challenge comes after Congress leaders, including Pawan Khera, alleged that Sarma’s wife holds multiple foreign passports, owns property in Dubai, and has links to overseas companies.

Earlier, Sarma dismissed the allegations as fabricated and politically motivated, claiming they were based on false information from a Pakistan-based social media group. He termed the accusations an attempt to influence election results and said legal action has been initiated, with his wife filing a police complaint.

Gogoi maintained that Sarma should welcome an investigation if there is nothing to hide, adding that Congress would probe the matter if voted to power.
