Gaurav Gogoi Urges New GST Policy in Upcoming Union Budget

Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi called on the Central Government to introduce a revised GST policy in the 2025-26 Union Budget. He highlighted the economic burden on poor and middle-class citizens, who contribute 64% of GST revenue, compared to only 3% from the wealthiest 10%. Gogoi termed the current GST system a “Gabbar Singh tax” and urged tax rate reductions to ease the financial strain on economically disadvantaged groups. He criticized the BJP-led government for disproportionately taxing the middle class over corporations.
