GMC Unveils 2025–26 Urban Upgrade Plan for Cleaner, Better-Managed Guwahati

The Guwahati Municipal Corporation announced a 2025–26 development roadmap to improve civic infrastructure, sanitation, lighting, and revenue systems. Mayor Mrigen Sarania urged traders to regularise licences and warned of penalties for defaulters. GMC reported strong property tax gains and will offer discounts for timely payments. Councillors have been allotted funds for roads, lighting, and public facilities, with a target of 200 public restrooms citywide. Key initiatives include ward-level cleanliness drives, expanded dry waste collection, water supply upgrades, and flood-prevention works. A pet maintenance app, new sanitation vehicles, and stricter building permit norms are also part of the plan, with most projects expected to finish by January.
