Goalpara District Bans E-Rickshaws on NH-17 to Boost Road Safety
The Goalpara administration has banned e-rickshaws and battery-operated three-wheelers on NH-17 to reduce congestion and accidents. District Commissioner Khanindra Choudhury highlighted their unsuitability for highways due to limited speed and power.
E-rickshaws will now operate only on designated municipal routes, marked with specific colors for identification. Mandatory safety measures include red reflectors, speed limit devices, and valid licenses for drivers. Violators face penalties under the Motor Vehicles Act.
Authorities aim to improve traffic flow, enforce route restrictions, and ensure public compliance for safer and efficient transport. Police will monitor and regulate hotspots for smoother highway travel.
