Golaghat Emerges as Smuggling Hub for Burmese Supari, Syndicate Operations Unchecked

Golaghat and Merapani are witnessing a surge in the rampant smuggling of Burmese Supari, with Golaghat serving as a major thoroughfare and hub for an expanding illegal syndicate. Despite objections from conscious individuals and organizations in Golaghat, no action has been taken by the district administration or Golaghat police. The Burmese supari empire is flourishing, with notorious syndicate members transporting the supari from the foothills of Nagaland through the CRPF gate at Merapani. Recent incidents, including an accident involving a truck loaded with Burmese supari, have drawn attention to the issue. While the Merapani police seized the truck and registered a case, there are concerns that the supari syndicate may attempt to manipulate various parties to free the confiscated goods.
