Guwahati Jal Board Advances Water Supply Project to Aid 30,000 Households

The Guwahati Jal Board (GJB) is progressing on the South West Guwahati water supply project, initiated in 2020 by former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Aimed at providing water to 30,000 households in the Kamakhya distribution zone, the first phase is scheduled for completion by September 2025.

Despite initial funding and contractor issues, GJB has contracted Larsen & Toubro (L&T) to expedite the project, which includes laying 84 km of ductile iron pipelines and upgrading water treatment facilities. Covering areas from Bhutnath to Maligaon Chariali and extending to Azara, the project promises to address Guwahati’s long-standing water shortages.
