Landslide Traps Three Miners in Illegal Rat-Hole Mine in Assam’s Patkai Hills
At least three coal miners are trapped following a landslide inside an illegal rat-hole mine in Assam’s Patkai hills, Tinsukia district. The incident occurred around 12:30 am at the Tikok West mining site between Bargolai and Namdang. The trapped miners include Dawa Cherpa from Nepal, and John and Fenaal from Meghalaya.
Four workers were involved in the illegal coal extraction; three entered the mine, and the fourth was assisting outside when the landslide struck, trapping the three inside. Rescue operations are ongoing, but the miners’ fate remains uncertain. Several agencies are being called in to assist with the rescue efforts.
