Guwahati Municipal Corporation Identifies 81 Street Vending Zones Amid Survey Delay

Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has identified 81 designated street vending zones to address the chaos caused by unregulated street vending in the city. This initiative aims to organize and regulate street vendors, but the process faced delays as the Delhi-based NGO assigned for a comprehensive survey failed to complete it on time. The urgency is heightened by the continuous emergence of new vendors in the city. The comprehensive survey is crucial for implementing the Assam Street Vendors Scheme 2020, which aims to provide vendors with licenses and business amenities, ensuring a more organized street vending system. Despite disappointment over the survey delay, GMC remains committed to tackling the challenges posed by street vending chaos and is actively working with stakeholders to create a more structured and regulated environment for both vendors and the public.
