Guwahati Police Bust Gang Involved in Theft and Sale of Manhole Covers

Guwahati Police have arrested a gang responsible for stealing and illegally selling manhole covers after an investigation into thefts in the Bamunimaidan area. The gang had been taking manhole covers from locations in Chandmari and Bamunimaidan, using small commercial vehicles to transport them to scrapyards outside the city. On November 18, 2024, the police recovered five stolen covers and arrested the suspects. The gang had sold over 20 covers to scrapyards, particularly in Rangia, posing as GMC workers to avoid detection.
