Guwahati Police Busts Stolen Mobile Phone Racket; Businessman Arrested in Athgaon Raid

In a significant operation, Guwahati Police arrested businessman Bhabesh Sharma during a raid at Shree Vinayak Enclave Apartment in Athgaon locality. The arrest is part of the crackdown on a major racket involved in smuggling stolen mobile phones to Bangladesh, with links to a broader network based in Delhi. High-profile businessmen are suspected to be part of this nexus, leading to a comprehensive investigation by the crime branch of Guwahati Police.

The raid was executed based on intelligence regarding the smuggling of stolen mobile phones nationwide, predominantly routed through courier services. The accused, Bhabesh Sharma, is believed to have played a significant role in this criminal operation.

During the raid, officials recovered 185 stolen mobile phones from a courier service provider named Naval Sahani. The illegal activities were not limited to phone smuggling, as substantial hawala transactions worth lakhs were also uncovered.
