Guwahati to Begin Juripar Drain Restoration to Tackle Urban Flooding

Urban Affairs Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah announced that restoration of Juripar’s drainage system in Panjabari will start on November 24 to reduce Guwahati’s artificial flooding. He said residents offering land for widening the natural stream will receive TDR certificates. The government will also create a major water-retention pond by excavating 800 bighas in Silsako and demolish Ginger Hotel for another retention site. From December 1, all city parks will have free entry. The announcements were made during the Swachh Guwahati Abhiyan 2.0 event.
