Guwahati Zoo Set for Rs 340 Crore Redevelopment

Assam’s State Zoo-cum-Botanical Garden in Guwahati is set for a major redevelopment project estimated at Rs 340 crore. Environment and Forest Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah announced the plan during the inauguration of Wildlife Week 2026, highlighting proposals for modern visitor facilities, a large bird aviary and a toy train to improve the visitor experience.

The minister said construction was progressing satisfactorily, with initial outlines of some facilities expected to become visible within the next three to four months. Forest Department officials have also visited zoological parks in Bengaluru and Chennai to study facilities and development practices for the project.
